Audioblogging and Podcasting in Education
This paper by Tan Yuh Huann and Mong Kok Thong although clearly not scholarly in nature provides a strong overview for using both Audioblogging and Podcasting. This paper presents the basics on Audioblogging and Podcasting in addition to presenting a rationale for the use of such technologies in terms of developmental theories. Vygotskian social theory states that children learn through social interaction. Both Audioblogging and Podcasting provide students with multiple opportunities for social interaction both online and offline.
This paper dicusses the stages of production of Podcasting and focuses on the educational merits of these stages. These stages including prerecording (scripting) in which students are able to work collaboratively in order to develop a script for their podcast. This scripting process can be highly beneficial for the development of the understanding of the content.
Furthermore, the paper discusses the positive influence Podcasting has on motivation to produce quality work. As students are aware of the fact that their work will be accessible to a greater audience they are more conscious of producing quality work thus improving the overall quality of the learning.
In addition this paper also discusses some issues that need to be considered when using podcasts in the classroom. Issues considered in the paper included copyright, plagiarism both of which students need to be made aware of when using these forms of technology.
