This article by Liane Grant, a teacher from St Bernardine’s Primary School, Regents Park discusses the benefits of podcasting in her classroom. As part of this teachers rationale for using such technology she used the quote from Marc Prensky who claimed “Our students have changed radically. Today’s children are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach”. With this in mind the teacher began using podcasting in her classroom and had used them for about a year and a half with both stage three and stage two students with great success.
The article addressed both sides of Podcasting the subscribing to useful podcasts as well as the production of podcasts. In addition to providing a justification for using podcasts the teacher also recommended a few podcasts that she and her students had found useful and how she had used them in her classroom. It is my belief that this is a useful part of this article as it provides us with a few specific examples of successful podcasts that have been useful in the classroom setting.
The article then turned it’s attention to the production of podcasts both teacher produced and student produced and how they can be used in the classroom. For me the example provided about the student who had previously struggled with the writing of an information report and how this was turned around by the motivation he got out of being able to create a podcast report was inspiring.
